Makam (pusara) Rasullullah SAW terletak di sebelah Timur Masjid Nabawi. Di tempat ini dahulu terdapat dua rumah, yaitu rumah Rasulullah SAW bersama Aisyah dan rumah Ali dengan Fatimah. Sejak Rasulullah SAW wafat pada tahun 11 H (632 M), rumah Rasullullah `SAW terbagi dua.Bagian arah kiblat (Selatan) utk makam Rasulullah SAW dan bagian Utara utk tempat tinggal Aisyah. Sejak tahun 678 H. (1279 M) di atasnya dipasang Kubah Hijau (Green Dome). Dan sampai sekarang Kubah Hijau tsb tetap ada. Jadi tepat di bawah Kubah Hijau itulah jasad Rasullullah SAW dimakamkan. Di situ juga dimakamkan kedua sahabat , Abu Bakar (Khalifah Pertama) dan Umar (Khalifah Kedua) yang dimakamkan di bawah kubah, berdampingan dengan makam Rasulullah SAW.
